For the first time in a long while, no one who plays significant minutes will be graduating after the season. (Justin Knox is officially a grad student.) Not that we don’t love Blue Steel, but tomorrow’s ceremony honoring D.J. Johnston, Van Hatchell and Daniel Bolick will probably feel less consequential than Senior Nights of the past.
Last year, the team bid farewell to 12th-year senior Marcus Ginyard and Deon Thompson. (As well as Ed Davis and the Wear twins, although no one knew it at the time.)
The year before, Danny Green, Tyler Hansbrough and Mike Copeland graduated.
In 2008, Quentin Thomas moved on to a lucrative career in rap.
You’d have to go all the way back to 2004 to find a Senior Night in which no major players took part. That year, Phillip McLamb, Damien Price and Jonathan Miller were the only ones graduating. Also, if you’re interested, McLamb invented this crazy thing.
